Lloyd’s Charities Trust, the grant-making charity of the Lloyd’s insurance market, has donated £50,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee's East Africa Crisis Appeal.
More than 10m people in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and the newly-formed Republic of South Sudan have been left in need of food, water and emergency healthcare following the worst drought in 60 years.
The money donated by LCT will go towards providing the basics to help keep people alive, including food, water and re-hydration kits for children.
Chief Executive of the DEC Brendan Gormley said: “Desperation has forced thousands to leave their homes to seek help in the towns or camps, but some of the most vulnerable have been unable to make the long and arduous journey.
“The more money we raise the more lives we can save in the short term, and the more help we can give people to rebuild their lives in the long term. It’s vital that people keep giving.”
We are encouraging those who are part of the Lloyd’s market to help in East Africa by making an individual donation on the DEC's website. You can find out more about Lloyd’s Charities Trust on the Lloyd's website.
