Lloyd’s will be joining thousands of companies around the world by switching off for Earth Hour this Saturday 26 March.
Earth Hour is an annual event organised by WWF (World Wildlife Fund for Nature) and sees households and businesses around the globe turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour. The event started in Sydney in 2007 and aims to raise awareness of the need to take action on climate change.
By taking part, Lloyd’s will save the equivalent of the energy needed to boil 5,760 cups of tea. Other insurance companies such as Hiscox, Aviva and RSA have pledged their support.
It's time to go beyond the hour
Lloyd’s has long understood the need to tackle energy consumption and is a member of ClimateWise, a collaborative insurance initiative through which members work together to respond to the risks and opportunities of climate change.
Over the last two years we’ve introduced a number of initiatives to improve energy usage in the Lloyd's building resulting in an 8% reduction. We’ve also reduced our overall UK emissions by 2.7% (404 tonnes of Co2).
It’s not too late to take part
It’s not too late to register to take part in Earth Hour, by doing so you’ll be joining almost 5 million supporters and a global network in over 100 countries/territories.

Lloyd’s Head of Property Services Jack Kent says: “I would urge all businesses to participate in Earth Hour. Taking part highlights some of the simple steps that firms can take each and every working day, and at weekends, to help reduce waste and cost.”
