Once again the Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards have shown that Lloyd’s is a market with a heart.
Lloyd’s Charities Trust was pleased to host a lunchtime reception yesterday which celebrated the way in which individuals working in the market are giving something back.
The Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards 2011 recognises the fundraising and volunteering work of those around the market who work year-round to support a huge variety of charities.
Some 30 people were each presented with a £1,000 donation to their chosen charity, in recognition of their support. The charities ranged from large well-known names to small grassroots organisations. The causes themselves included children’s hospices, cancer care and research, support for the deaf and providing support services for homeless men and women.
Sue Langley, Lloyd’s Director of Market Development and a trustee of Lloyd’s Charities Trust, hosted the event and presented the awards. “Every year the applications we receive remind the trustees again of the amazing work those around the market are doing for so many charities,” Sue says.
“It’s getting harder and harder to decide the winners. This year we particularly recognised the level of direct personal involvement given by award-winners to their chosen charity. They should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”
Networking opportunities
The event also provided the winners with a welcome opportunity to meet each other, exchange stories and introduce representatives from their chosen charity.
John Spencer, Non-Executive Chairman of Argo International and also a trustee of Lloyd’s Charities Trust, closed the event. He says: “The individual and collective impact of your work brings credit to the Lloyd’s market.
“From raising huge sums of money to the regular work of trusteeship and even jumping out of a plane – the difference your support for these charities makes is truly impressive. Thank you – please keep up this fantastic work.”
