Council of Lloyd's

The following people make up the Council of Lloyd's, the body responsible for the management and supervision of the market:

 

John Nelson

John Nelson
Chairman of Lloyd's (Nominated member)

After qualifying as a chartered accountant in 1970, John Nelson began a long and distinguished career in banking when he joined Kleinwort Benson in 1971. He spent 15 years at the bank, working in both the UK and the US, before moving to Lazard in 1986 where for 13 years he ran the corporate finance division, becoming Vice-Chairman in 1990. 

John Nelson became Chairman of Credit Suisse First Boston Europe in 1999, retiring in 2002. He then took up a number of board and advisory positions including Deputy Chairman of Kingfisher plc from 2002 to 2011.

He has also been a Non-Executive Director of BT, Woolwich plc, JP Morgan Cazenove and Cazenove Group. He joined Hammerson plc in 2004 and became Chairman in 2005, a position he continues to hold. He remains an advisor to Charterhouse Capital Partners LLP and is also a Trustee of the National Gallery. He is married with three children.

Paul Jardine

Paul Jardine
Deputy Chairman of Lloyd's and Representative of Catlin Syndicate Limited (External member)

Paul Jardine, a qualified actuary, is Deputy Chairman of Catlin Underwriting Agencies Limited and Chief Operating Officer of Catlin Group Limited. He has over 25 years of insurance industry experience and is a former Chairman of the Lloyd’s Market Association.

Dr Andreas Prindl CBE
Senior Independent Deputy Chairman

Andreas Prindl is a former Chairman of Nomura Bank International, which he set up for Nomura Securities in 1986. Before that he spent 20 years with Morgan Guaranty, acting as General Manager Japan and as CEO of its joint venture Saudi International Bank.

He has been President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and of the Association of Corporate Treasurers, and the first Chairman of the Banking Industry Training and Development Council. For his contributions to financial services education, he was appointed CBE in 2001.

He is Pastmaster of the Worshipful Company of Musicians, a Governor of the Yehudi Menuhin School and a trustee of the new music in prisons charity Good Vibrations.

Graham White
Deputy Chairman of Lloyd's (Working member)

Graham White has worked in the Lloyd's market since 1968, having graduated from Cambridge. He subsequently did an MBA at Cranfield, and has been a reinsurance broker, company secretary, and members' and managing agent.

In addition, he has held a number of non-executive directorships both within and outside the Lloyd's market, and has also served on a number of committees and working parties. He is Deputy Chairman of Argenta Syndicate Management Ltd, and was elected to the Council of Lloyd's in 2006.
